Itinerarios culturales mediante la puesta en valor de sus nodos componentesel caso de la Cartagena romana

Abstract

Interest in history and the origin of our civilization and our cities can be traced back long ago, but the issue of asset recovery is relatively recent, given the broad temporal spectrum encompassing the concept in itself. As a result, there have been developed a lot of actions throughout the 20th century, aimed to the recovery of spaces archaeological museum venues, in Spain, and all around the world through UNESCO. All these works have led to important advances in the development of works of musealization and enhancement of the archaeological heritage. Cultural Itineraries represent a change in the ways that heritage conservation must be done; the concept of monument as isolated from its context is developed, and centers, neighborhoods, historic populations, and cultural landscape are designed as new categories of cultural heritage, fostering communication and cooperation among peoples for the preservation of the heritage. Under all these principles, in 2007, the Valencian Government developed a plan for the recovery of the Via Augusta as a cultural hub. This work, raised up to the border of the community of Valencia and Murcia, does not define an end point, and it offers a great chance to be continued. Through the definition of different categories of nodes, the archaeological remains of Roman times accredited in Cartagena during the last century are classified, establishing Main Nodes which articulate the layout of a Cultural Itinerary in the city. Only through the knowledge of this information, we can mark as a fundamental objective, the establishment of strategies of connection and implementation between the different Main Nodes. Only in this way we can propose a Cultural Itinerary, according to the criteria which are established by ICOMOS, giving continuity to the Cultural Itinerary of the Via Augusta.
