Abstract

This research closes a cycle of studies on the plastic arts in the colonization churches of Extremadura. The National Institute of Colonization built a large number of villages in Extremadura in the 1950s and 1960s and their churches were the most interesting buildings due to their diversity. To ornament temples and celebrate worship, works of art were made in different techniques: painting, sculpture, ceramics, mosaic and stained glass. The artists in charge developed a very advanced style for the time being and this process is even more remarkable because it is located in a peripheral and rural environment. South of Guadiana River, in the province of Badajoz, we analyze the artistic works created for twelve churches.
