Abstract

The “Conoce tus Fuentes” project is a pioneering initiative in the cataloguing of fountains and springs, thanks to the cooperation of citizens through the Internet. The tool is the web page www.conocetusfuentes.com and the engine is the dedication of the collaborators who disinterestedly have cataloged over 5400 points (February 2012) from all over Andalusia, which highlights the potential of participatory activities through ICT. This project results from the collaboration between the Ministry of Environment of the Andalusia Government and the Water Research Institute of the University of Granada. It was presented in November 2007. Its objectives go beyond the development of an extensive catalog of the hydrogeological heritage, as it aims the population approach to these natural resources to ensure their awareness and contribute to the valorization of these points of interest, since they are not only mere water resources, but many of them are part of history, and are an ethnographic and cultural heritage. In addition to the web site, numerous promotional activities are carried out that affect people's knowledge about the springs and fountains of Andalusia in particular, as well as the understanding of groundwater in general.
