Resumo

The nitrate and nitrite reductase are key enzymes in the nitrate assimilation. They are highly influenced by the presence of nitrogen and nitrogen form in the nutrient solution. To evaluate the influence of reductions in nitrogen supply on 5 cultivars of broccoli (Brassica oleracea var. italica) plants were grown in modified Hoagland nutrient solutions. The concentrations of nitrogen were reduced and the ratio nitrate/ ammonium was modified (Reduction N total: 100%, 75%, 50% and 25%. nitrogen forms NO3- / NH4+ : 1/0, 2/1 and 1/1). Growth, mineral concentration, nitrate and nitrite reductase, and total protein concentration were determined. Based on the results, we observed that there were differences between the cultivars studied, but in general, 50% reduction of nitrogen supply did not affect the growth and nitrogen metabolism. However, differences were observed when the ratio nitrate/ammonium was reduced.
