Revisión de lo vernáculo en la modernidad

Abstract

The Age of Romanticism and the interest in eastern Mediterranean suppositioned the search for new artistic values and different forms of expressions other than the classical sources. One of the new sources was vernacular architecture, which went from being unknown to the central european culture in the Age of Enlightment to be perceived as an independent element of artistic interest as the nineteenth century progressed. We will discuss this evolution through written and pictorial legacy of intellectuals who traveled to the Mediterranean. The temporary space we establish begins in the eighteenth century and ends in the early twentieth century, the time period when the architectural avant saw in the mediterranean vernacular architecture a solid foundation from which to build a new modern architecture.
