Abstract
Since the nineteenth century the Spanish cities abide by the provisions of the Royal Decree of Carlos III for which it was imposed deploy extramural burial sites of the same, different urban models were tested in the spatial and functional distribution of these silent cities, both projects run by the Royal Academies during their implementation promoted by the municipal councils. Urban typologies were established scale trials which happened almost immediately in the other city, living city. This article aims to show the great list of projects from the Royal Academies worked the theme of cities for eternity, as well as those imposed so developed municipalities of the main nineteenth century Spanish cities. Analyzing some of the projects that is graphic evidence, it has established a taxonomic classification showing the different models of layout and urban morphology developed by a route that goes from the ‘Illustrated graveyard ‘ (egalitarian, wilderness and aseptic) to ‘romantic cemetery’ (distinguished, landscaped and monumental).
