Abstract

According to the barometer of Sociological Research Centre (CIS) in July 2014 employment remains a major concern of the Spaniards. In this context, this study examines this important and continuing today to the Spanish society, which affects both the economy and the welfare of citizens, in order to know how it behaves in the different areas of the Spanish geography and what has been its evolution from the beginning of the economic crisis. Then, a statistical analysis of the employment at the provincial level is performed during the 2008‐2013 by using spatial econometrics techniques. The most important result is the contrast between the northeastern part of Spanish territory, where there are higher rates of employment, and the south, where they are concentrated the lowest.
