Abstract

The reduction of ship pollutants is a key point in the international agenda. The emissions estimation is usually based on standard calculations for different scenarios. This work research shows a numerical study to value the influence of added resistance on commercial ship route. This theoretical approach helps to study the impact of weather conditions on ship emissions and freight throughput. As relevant results that can be revealed, a difference of up to 50% in pollutant emission estimation is noticed if added resistance is considered. Additionally, the added resistance conditions could lead to a freight loss of 18% per operational year.
