Among the different competences that are listed in the new eees, we focus on one of these: The ethic as a generic competence in technical studies and, in particular, in engineering schools. We plan to analyze the necessity of integrating this competence in such studies and the possibility of doing that without no philosophical or religious components. That is, the main goal of this work is to show that ethic, as a generic competence, can be treated from a purely scientific point of view. To this end, a classroom experience developed by the author in a mathematical optimization course at the industrial engineering school of the technical university of cartagena will be presented
