Resumo
Cores of 10 boreholes drilled inland of Mazarrón bay were sampled and studied. Sedimentology and paleontology of the samples revealed a micro-mosaic of paleoenvironments: from lagoon to coastal mud flat with changing periodsof permanent/ephemeral water level and alluvial sedimentation. Amino acid racemization (AAR) revealed that some borehole records were of Pleistocene age (MIS7) and some others belonged to the Holocene (MIS1). FRX analysis show that the top of AAR dated Holocene records revealed high Pb concentrations coinciding with mining and metallurgic activities since Phoenician and Roman times. Las Moreras Fault controlled MIS7 and MIS1 sedimentary areas and facies.
