Resumen

Microbial fuel cells (MFC) have gained great importance in the field of emerging technologies for bioenergy production. MFCs are complex systems that involve a large number of bioelectrochemical reactions and physical-chemical processes, whose behavior is difficult to predict. The use of modeling techniques is very helpful to analyze the behavior of MFC devices in order to optimize their performance as well as finding the bottlenecks of the system. Extended versions of the works presented until have been proposed by the earlier mentioned authors for the study of the impact of pH and electrode arrangement on MFC efficiency. An adapted version of such work to describe the performance of microfluidic MFCs was also presented by M. M. Mardanpour et al. MFC technology has gained much attention because of the need to produce clean energy to address the effects of the climate change.
