Abstract

The “Plan Especial de Ordenación y Protección del Conjunto Histórico de Cartagena” (PEOPCH) approved definitivelyin 2005 included a series of interventions on various areas of the old town of Cartagena. These actionswere diverse: assumed from the previous planning or proposed for the first time; complete renewal of the urbanfabric or replacement of some specific parts; for residential or heritage recovery uses. This paper reviews the transformationsof these areas of intervention of the historical-artistic complex of this city in the southeast of Spainin the period 2005-2021, reflecting the evolution of the actions planned. The results show the relationship of thisevolution with the different socioeconomic situations that have occurred and with the management proposalsproposed in the planning.
