Resumen

Pollen time-series can be considered as being generated by biological system with inherently nonlinear dynamics. The purpose of this paper is to characterize pollen and related time-series using the largest Lyapunov exponent. We used the method suggested by Rosenstein et al. for calculating it and we introduce new tools to a previous time-series segmentation and to search the linear region. In our research, they were computed in MATLAB®, over data obtained in Murcia, Spain. The results prove the existence of chaos in the pollen time-series and related meteorological time-series and the utility of largest Lyapunov exponent to distinguish and quantify chaotic events in biological time-series.
