Resumen

Static productivity measures are the common approach for measuring the productivity of companies. However, these productivity methods do not consider the dynamic character of the capital and may distort the sources of productivity growth with adjustment costs. In order to overcome the limitations of the static models, this work analyses the dynamic Luenberger productivity growth of agri-food companies and its components, which include dynamical technical change, dynamic technical inefficiency change and dynamic scale inefficiency change. The Luenberger productivity index is estimated using Data Envelopment Analysis. The empirical application is based on a sample of 1550 Spanish cooperatives and IOFs of the agri-food sector in the period 2009-2013. The Luenberger Indicator of dynamic productivity shows, for cooperative companies and IOFs, a productivity increases of, on average, 2.5% and 2.1% respectively. Further, we compare the results taking into consideration the characteristics of each company and regional characteristics of the geographical area where the company operates to test how they influence in the Luenberger productivity indicator of cooperatives and IOFs.
