Zusammenfassung
The increase of the average temperature in artic regions is boosting the ice setback, which allows keeping the artic navigation routes open for longer periods, open new ones, and expand the commercial fishing. In fact, shipping lines are more and more enthusiastic about the potential that these new routes offer, given the save of time and energy cost that might provide compared to longer traditional routes. In this sense, this paper presents some issues regarding with experimentation carried out at CEHINAV Towing Tank (Spain) to study the ship resistance in broken ice. The tests were conducted using paraffin wax as simulated broken ice. First, some aspects regarding with ship ice navigation are exposed. Second, main particulars of a ship model based on B.I.O. Hesperides (Spanish Army) to carry out the towing tests are shown. Third, hypothesis used to configure tests are explained. Finally, some conclusions and results are exposed regarding with experimentation conducted.
