Zusammenfassung

During the ship life, biofouling manifests itself as a variable that notably alters the ship hydrodynamic, considerably affecting its normal displacement and producing a significant increase in fuel consumption. This research allowed the development of an algorithm applied to a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model, through which the influence of biofouling on the drag of ships during different growth stages was simulated on antifouling ceramic coatings used on the ship hull underbody as an innovative and sustainable solution to prevent biological adherence. The designed tool allowed to obtain ship model drag with any kind of antifouling coating on the hull underbody at different degrees of biological development based on a single roughness variable obtained experimentally, being very useful for the engineer in the design phase of the hull shapes.
