Abstract

This paper deals with the study of street lights in the main squares and gardens of Cartagena’s historiccenter, analyzing the main physical characteristics and infrastructures present in the different landscapedspaces to understand the lighting demand and prepare an inventory of existing street light.Public lighting has a transcendental importance in the development of the activity of cities, and, in aparticular way, that which incorporates parks and gardens. Currently, the improvement of lighting in allsectors is essential, but especially in the lighting of parks and gardens for their modernization accordingto the use and presence of plant species.The existing lighting parameters in the parks and gardens selected in the study were analyzed, as well asthe variety of vegetation. For this reason, the physical characteristics of dimension and geometry of the landscaped spaces and the variety and density of plant species present in each of them, such as trees, palmtrees, shrubs and other types of plants, were considered so that the installation respects and values theirexistence. Special construction elements were also evaluated for the same purpose.Based on the definition of the squares object of the inventory, the technical data of the existing Street lightelements in each square are collected, making an inventory of them and an evaluation of the lightinginstallations in relation to the lighting quality and energy efficiency of the street light and its coexistencewith the species of the gardens
