The coordinated Project Integration of Next Energy Conversion and Storage Technologies (NEXT-ENER) is devoted to research on new materials for energy conversion and storage, with focus on two main applications: electrochemical conversion (photochemical hydrogen production) and storage (Zn-based batteries) and photovoltaic conversion (organic and hybrid solar cells). Subproject SP5 at UPCT, Impacts and recycling of devices for energy conversion and storage: sustainability of industrial production (NEXT-ENER-LCA) will contribute to device preparation and characterization and our main focus will be devoted to the optimization of processing routes by using Life Cycle Assessment methodology. Also, economical estimations of Cost of Ownership for production and Levelized Cost of Electricity for energy service provided will be accomplished. Our objectives are: 1) fabrication and characterization of Zn-based batteries by using materials provided by the other subprojects in electrode fabrication (specially carbon derivatives and metal oxides), investigation on polymer-gel based electrolytes will also be accomplished in order to demonstrate a secondary Zn-based battery with at least 500 cycles. 2) Regarding solar cells, polymeric with nonfullerene acceptors (combination of low band gap polymers with bench-mark P3HT and DTBR-based acceptors will be used) and perovskite with complex (quaternary cations and binary anions, also combination of 2D/3D structures with amino-valeric a
