SmartDUMP is a project with a high scientific, technological, and social impact which fits perfectly with the objectives of digital transformation and ecological transition of the call. It proposes the groundbreaking digital transformation of a system (garbage dump) with a very low level of digitization and that generates multiple social, environmental, and ecological issues. In addition, it is now when the necessary technological conditions exist to be able to tackle a project of this complexity and caliber. Thus, this project proposes the digital transformation of garbage dumps through the implementation of digital twins. In this sense, several studies state that the technologies necessary for waste management are poorly developed. Thus, this project will contribute to fill this technological gap and make possible a smarter waste management simultaneously reducing its environmental impact. This will allow achieving the objectives of sustainable development implementing effectively a green and circular economy and zero-waste. Regarding waste management in current society there is a consensus on the following points (that represent the project domains): 1. There is a lack of accurate and open data sources. This is a main problem that prevents the development of new business models and digital transformation and the transition towards a circular economy of the waste management industry. 2.
