Development and Enhancement of Seismic Exploration Tools to Induced Seismic Effects Prevention. Seismic Exploration Methods.
Of National scope. With a Public character. It has been granted under a regime of Competitive.
In collaboration with other entities. Role: Member
Granada city and its Metropolitan area are located in the most dangerous area in Spain. Also, the important extension of the built area that Granada has experienced from 1950 means a significant exposition to the seismic risk of this new infrastructure against earthquake occurrences. The recent relevant development of seismic techniques has favoured their use in the ground behaviour and ground-structure response assessment under earthquake events. Thus, enabling the elaboration of seismic microzoning and vulnerability studies to identify areas prone to suffer relevant seismic-induced damages. The main causes of these seismic damages on buildings and infrastructure are seismic amplification, liquefaction, resonance, and ground settling from densification phenomena. Concerning that, seismic-based studies are essential to people in charge of urban planning, civil protection agencies, more resilient infrastructure design, the elaboration of building construction regulations, etc. There are seismic ambient-noise-based passive methods such as SPAC, MiniArray, HVSR, and active seismic methods such as MASW and SRT among the seismic exploration techniques to evaluate the seismic risk. Their use is widespread and accepted by the scientific community and practitioners in urban earthquake risk studies. All of these seismic techniques will be employed in the project to evaluate the seismic wave amplification and resonance phenomena in the study areas as well as liquefaction and densifi
