Scientific exploitation of Euclid data: Unveiling the rise of complexity in the Universe
Of National scope. With a Public character. It has been granted under a regime of Competitive.
In collaboration with other entities. Role: Member
In the last years the UPCT have been progressively involved developing methods and algorithms and doing preparatory work for the exploitation of the Euclid data. The activities cover a wide range that reflects the interests of the research group involved. A progressive effort has been done to participate and have visibility in the different Science Working Groups (SWG) of Euclid Consortium (EC), i.e. these areas: (a) Galaxy clusters and protoclusters within the groups Cluster of Galaxies (CG-SWG) and Galaxy and AGN Evolution (GAE-SWG), (b) Strong lensing submillimeter galaxies within the groups GAE-SWG and Primeval Universe (PU-SWG), (c) High redshift galaxies within the groups PU-SWG and Strong Lensing (SLSWG), (d) Low mass stars within the group Milky Way (MW-SWG). We are participating in several Key Project (KP) for DR1 and we have also proposed some of them. All EC papers will be associated with an approved KP (where a single KP may lead to multiple papers). We have developed a new algorithm to detect high-z galaxy clusters and protoclusters. We have proposed a KP to detect high redshift galaxy clusters using our new algorithm in order to find rare galaxy clusters, estimate their abundances as a function of mass and redshift, and compare with cosmological simulations to test cosmological models. Another KP have also been proposed to find all the galaxy clusters with redshift higher than 2 because some SWG in the EC are interested in this catalog to study these objects.
