The overall goal of MultiSEn refers to designing, synthesizing, and characterizing thoroughly materials based on metal oxide and halide perovskites and spinels. These compounds have great potential as efficient light absorbers and as catalysts with straight forward benefits for energy harvesting and storage applications. Exploiting the multifunctionality of these materials starts with a deep understanding of their stoichiometry, structural, and electro-optical properties, not only in the bulk but also at the surfaces and interfaces, where the essential charge-transfer takes place. Therefore, characterization techniques should be well adapted to the complexity of these processes and require advanced technical knowledge. Within this highly competitive field, the novelty of our coordinated proposal is three-fold: first of all, materials will be prepared by an environmentally-friendly, solvent-free, mechanochemical technique. This approach is not constrained by solubility limits and allows the synthesis of with other compounds as well. In particular, nanohybrids thereof with 2D carbon-based materials can be prepared, whose properties are a rather new research field. The second strength of this consortium is our long experience in advanced multiscale characterization techniques. Structural, optical, and electrical studies down to the nanoscale can be performed with the joint facilities of the three research teams of MultiSEn. Finally, perovskite materials will be implem
