Abstract

The high levels of competition that characterises the agri-food sector in Spain makes innovation a key competitive factor. However, innovation is generally hampered because of the lack of financial resources owned by small sized companies. Thus, the aim of this paper is to analyse the agri-food Science, Technology and Innovation System in the Region de Murcia. In this region, the importance of the agricultural and food industry is almost twice the national average. The results show: a) the significance of the inputs allocated to R&D; b) the negative impact of the 2008-2011 crisis, and c) the linkage between research topics developed and the companies´ interest.
