La co-opeteción entre puertos de crucero, aplicación a los puertos base del Mediterráneo occidental

Abstract

The Mediterranean Sea during the first 15 years of the 21st century has shown a dynamic behavior, ranking as the second cruise destination region worldwide, reaching a market share of 20% of the deployed capacity in 2015. The Western Mediterranean has the highest cruise activity, with approximately 70% of total cruise passenger movements registered in Mediterranean ports during the period 2000-2015. There is high spatial dependence between ports in the configuration of a cruise itinerary. This results in simultaneous competition and cooperation relationships between two or more ports included in a given market. This paper presents an analysis if the behavior patterns of a sample of 29 Western Mediterranean ports associated to seven countries. The time series is composed of the annual cruise passenger movements of each port during the period 200-2015. Furthermore, in the case of homeports, is set up a dynamic model to determine the relationships of cooperation/competition existing between them, the market share of each port is selected as dynamic variable. The results of this article may be useful to practitioners and academics linked to maritime transport and port industry.
