Zusammenfassung
The increase of the average temperature in arctic regions is boosting the ice setback in these zones until now low travelled, which allows keeping the arctic navigation routes open for longer periods, open new ones, and expand the commercial fishing. Shipping lines are enthusiastic about the potential that these new routes offer, given the saving of time and fuel consumption that might provide compared to traditional routes. This paper presents some issues regarding experimentation carried out at ETSIN Model Basin CEHINAV Towing Tank (Spain) to study ship resistance in broken ice. Due to high cost of this type of experimentation an investigation of different materials to simulate ice floes was carried out. First of all, some aspect regarding ship ice navigation and the state of art of ship ice resistance are shown. Secondly, some details about particulars of a ship model based on B.I.O. Hesperides to carry out the towing tests are noticed. Then, hypothesis used to design the experimentation are detailed. Finally, some results and conclusions from experimentation are shown.
