Abstract

The current concepts of geopolitics and geoeconomics provide a new perspective to understand the dynamics that are shaping power relations and spheres of influence, and provide guidance on how they may evolve in the future. Geoeconomics policy aims to place its own strategic industries in environments with the capacity for geopolitical impact, and contemplate critical resource sectors such as oil, microchips, communications, finance, and high technology and innovation sectors, which make possible the creation of monopolies in entirely new markets. From this perspective, the effects of global value chains and the different strategies that States can carry out directly, or through their national champions, to position themselves in strategic and high-technology sectors are analyzed
