University classrooms as social learning organizations require thedevelopment of collective learning methodologies. Since the suitability ofcollaborative work in the classroom has been successfully proved, students need notonly to acquire specific skills of the subject, but also the generic skills for teamwork.Up to now, teamwork has been fostered through techniques based on a single-looplearning process, serving collaborative learning techniques as mere instruments toachieve specific competencies. With the double-loop learning process, the use ofthese techniques would serve not only to acquire such skills but also to change thebehavior of the team members, which in turn may help students to validate theirmental models and therefore potentially create and absorb new ways of thinking andacting.
