El grupo de Genética y Biología Vegetal centra su actividad en cuatro frentes principales: Genética, con estudios de genómica funcional y genética molecular del control del desarrollo floral; Control biológico de patógenos, con estudios de interacción planta patógeno y uso de compost supresivos para el control de enfermedades; Estrés vegetal inducido para modificar y mejorar la calidad nutricional de plantas cultivadas; y Palinología, aplicando el estudio de los granos de polen a campos como la alergología, la determinación del origen floral de mieles, las ciencias forenses y la reconstrucción paleoambiental.
