Abstract

The mining industry has an enormous complexity generated by the management of environmental wealth, which results in conflict between local communities, governments, and extractive companies. This is why they need to develop their strategic capacities to achieve expected results, not only individually but also with their environment. Therefore, these strategic capabilities will allow the development of auxiliary companies and motivate ideas for social entrepreneurship in communities. This leads us to study the behavior of the extractive industry in the Dominican Republic, its CSR strategies, its relationship with auxiliary companies, and business success from competitiveness and innovation in this industry. At the same time, the role of CSR in auxiliary companies and their relationship with performance, collaboration, and competitiveness is analyzed. To do this, structural equation models are used. The results reveal that CSR favors competitiveness and innovation of extractive companies, as well as their performance. For the auxiliary industry, CSR favors competitiveness, cooperation, and performance. Among the practical applications, it can be highlighted that companies must serve as tools for the development of the community, social groups, and citizenship, adhering to ethical, moral, and just principles for society. Therefore, mining companies are encouraged to establish CSR as a management model since internal management in extractive companies can be used to improve their performance and competitiveness while introducing environmental management systems and reinforcing the production chain through the strengthening of auxiliary companies, improving their technical capabilities, and increasing their profitability. A third study is also presented about entrepreneurship initiatives in neighboring communities to mining operations, indicating Co-Innovation and Sustainability elements as results of the application of CSR, driven by mining companies.
