Juan Pablo Fernández-Trujillo is a full professor ofTechnical University of Cartagena since 2018 at the Department of Agronomical Engineering (formerly Dpt. Agric. Food Engin) and also was associate professor of UPCT since 1999. He obtained his degree in Agronomical Engineering for Technical University of Valencia (UPV) in 1992. He obtained a MSc degree in Environmental Managements (Instituto de Investigaciones Ecológicas & The Open University- UK) in 1996. He obtained his PhD in UPV in 1997 working on postharvest of peach in CEBASCSIC (Murcia, Spain). His two year´s postdoc was conducted in Cornell University (Ithaca, NY). He works on postharvest fruit quality, disorders and treatments, and also in quality-oriented breeding from a postharvest point on view (mainly melon), as a member of the Postharvest & Refrigeration Group and researcher of Institute of Plant Biotechnology in UPCT. He is also member of other two groups dedicated to tropical fruit in Colombia. He has experience in postharvest and quality of many temperate, subtropical and tropical fruit. His teaching activities include official BSc courses (always as prof responsible) of postharvest biology and and technology (17 c), food extractive industries (22 c), food process technology (10 c), unit operations of food engineering (1 c),food byproducts (1 c) and cereal derivate products (1 c). In MSc he also teach applied biotechnology (responsible of the course) postharvest biology and technology, gas chromatography and in the past was the responsible and organizer of the fresh-cut course eight years. He was the principal investigator in several national, regional and other projects. He has published papers in journals (68 in SCI, 75% of them Q1), books or book chapters (26), other journals (17), and scientific conferences (>191 in total, 68 of them published in Acta Horticulturae, actually an indexed Q4-journal). Species more frequently studied during his research were melon, peach, sweet pepper, and some tropical fruit (araza). He was the supervisor of 2 PhD students and co-supervisor of 3 more, and 2 more are underway. Also, he directed/codirected 31 BSc final projects in UPCT, 1 project in UPV, 3 MSc thesis, 8 projects of students of Univ.Autónoma Chapingo (México), and 8 to students of Univ.Quimper. He supervised 17 students during practical trainings in companies, and several more for BSc international mobilities from Iberoamerica and other countries. He directed and was teacher of the I international postharvest trainining for Syngenta in 2003. He was profesor of three courses in the past of postharvest technology, and three international ones organized in the present at UPCT (two of them online), His WOS H index is 26 and obtained his five six-year periods recognized by CNEAI in 2023. He reviewed 37 projects to the Spanish Agency of Evaluation, 32 projects for FONCYT-Argentina, 1 ANII (Uruguay), 20 AVAP, 200 papers of 35 journals (27 of them indexed scientific journals such as PBT, JAFC, JASHS, LWT, FRI, SH, FC, etc.), and also was the reviewer of Colciencias, ARO, FONCYT and editorials (Blackwell-Wiley). In 2001 he was awarded as young PhD researcher by SECH. He is a member of the editorial board of 4 scientific journals (Foods, Agronomía Colombiana, Rev. Colombiana de Ciencias Hortícolas, Revista Ingenieria Agricola y Biosistemas Univ. Chapingo) and Frontiers Plant Sci. in the past. He has experience in cooperation with international researchers, the organization of 5 nternational scientific conf. (e.g. secretary of Intl. ISHS postharvest congress ) and was the co-convener of one symposium in IHC2010. He is editing melonquality.blogspot.com.com
